December 2019 in Prague. This seminar, presented in collaboration with <strong>Michal Kone\u010dn\u00fd<\/strong> and <strong>Bohus Z\u00edskal<\/strong>, will be a part of the<strong> 20. He is currently working as a partner and senior consultant at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weareavp.com\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AVP<\/a><\/strong>, which is one of the world&#8217;s&nbsp;leading specialists in the management and preservation of digital information. As an experienced archivist and consultant, he specializes in developing management processes and strategies for digital collection content in a wide variety of institutional settings. He provides training and services for organizations such as the<strong> Society of American Archives<\/strong>, the <strong>International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives<\/strong>, the <strong>Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts<\/strong>, the <strong>U.S. Library of Congress<\/strong>, the <strong>Smithsonian Institution<\/strong>, the <strong>British Library<\/strong>, <strong>Harvard University<\/strong>, <strong>Yale University<\/strong>, <strong>Northwestern University<\/strong>, and <strong>Paramount Pictures<\/strong>, among many others.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-4\" style=\"transform:translate3d(0,0,0);\"><h3><b>Program of the seminar 4.&nbsp;12.&nbsp;2019<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>(4 lecture blocks &#8211; seminar is not directly intended for IT specialists, knowledge of technologies is not necessary.)<\/p>\n<h4><b>Management and preservation of cultural heritage in digitized and natively digital form<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>Presented by: Bertram Lyons in collaboration with Michal Kone\u010dn\u00fd and Bohus Ziskal<\/p>\n<p><b>Who the event <\/b><b>is <\/b><b>for:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>managers \/ directors who conceptualize, determine and influence the developmental direction of the institution, and make funding decisions;<\/li>\n<li>executives responsible for digitization, management, presentation and preservation of digital content, in particular at the methodological level;<\/li>\n<li>staff who perform or design specific tasks related to digital collection objects;<\/li>\n<li>administrators and operators of digital libraries, repositories, etc .;<\/li>\n<li>for grant recipients and providers;<\/li>\n<li>PhD students, students of archives, museums, librarianship, history, musicology, for sound engineers and technicians;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Language interpretation is provided<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>Block 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why is digital content storage different from physical object protection, and how is it similar?<\/li>\n<li>Why do we need to address the protection of cultural heritage in digital form?<\/li>\n<li>What makes digital content vulnerable in the 21st century?<\/li>\n<li>What happens if we do not develop strategic directions for the stewardship of digital information?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Block 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Basics for creating a digital preservation strategy, including reviews of ISO 16363, ISO 14721, NDSA best practices, Nestor, and other guiding methodologies.<\/li>\n<li>Digital preservation requires more than just appropriate technologies; strategies are important to be in place for staffing, documented procedures, risk management, financial planning, and setting long-term goals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Block 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The technical aspect of digital content stewardship is related to its numerical nature &#8211; bit protection.<\/li>\n<li>Information on technologies and tools, strategic planning, procedures, decision-making processes, and specific examples from practice.<\/li>\n<li>What you can achieve yourself and approaches to document your needs clearly in order to select and implement appropriate solutions for your specific context.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Block 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The question of access &#8211; how to make the most of digital content in the digital world &#8211; is critical to preservation.<\/li>\n<li>Information on technologies and tools, strategic planning, procedures, decision-making processes, and specific examples from practice.<\/li>\n<li>What you can achieve yourself and approaches to document your needs clearly in order to select and implement appropriate solutions for your specific context.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each block will last a maximum of 90 minutes. Each block presents questions and responses essential to understanding the field. Orientation in the discussed issues is not a condition for participation. The seminar will not prescribe specific procedures and techniques, but rather will provide an overview of the field and current practices with the goal of sharing experience and generating discussion. The seminar is not directly intended for IT specialists.
