The Evolution of the Interpretative Tradition Based on the Works of Antonín Dvořák and Bedřich Smetana
Two members of the New Phonograph team will cooperate on the research of the evolution of the interpretative tradition based on the works of Antonín Dvořák and Bedřich Smetana. The project will be coordinated by the Masaryk University, Brno Univesity of Technology and the National Museum. The Memory of Sound project took 45th place from nearly 533 applicants for ETA support programme funded by Technology Agency of the Czech Republic.
The project aims to create an analytical tool for music interpretation practice. It examines the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence to capture the development of the interpretation of Czech music on the examples of piano compositions by B. Smetana and A. Dvořák. In addition to orientation in the database of recordings (dating, performer), the developed software will enable the analysis of the expressiveness of interpretive performance (rhythm, tempo changes). With the help of technical processing, we will achieve the possibility of a more objective comparison of the historical development of recordings. The output of the project is a musicological methodology, software, specialized database, article in an impact journal and workshops.
